PayPay Adds Binance Pay for Overseas Visitors in Japan
Eligible overseas Binance Pay users can pay at supported PayPay merchants through HIVEX, while merchants continue to receive Japanese yen.

PayPay added Binance Pay as an inbound payment option on September 30, 2026, allowing eligible overseas visitors to pay at supported PayPay merchants in Japan through the HIVEX network. The service works with both customer-presented and merchant-presented payment modes where the merchant supports the relevant setup, and the merchant receives Japanese yen.
Visitor access, not domestic Binance access
The feature is for eligible Binance.com users visiting Japan from overseas. Binance's operating guide says a user must be physically in Japan, use a Japanese IP address, complete identity verification and use the latest version of the Binance app. PayPay says users of Binance Japan who reside in Japan are not eligible.
That boundary is important. The launch is a cross-border acceptance route for visitors, not a general crypto-payment function for Japanese residents. Availability also remains subject to Binance Pay's supported-country rules and account eligibility.
HIVEX connects the payment to PayPay merchants
The transaction can use either customer-presented mode, in which the visitor shows a payment code, or merchant-presented mode, in which the visitor scans a merchant code. HIVEX, operated by TBCASoft, connects Binance Pay into PayPay's merchant rails.
PayPay says merchants do not need a new contract or system change if they already support the relevant PayPay and HIVEX payment modes. The merchant receives yen rather than the crypto asset selected by the user. Neither PayPay's announcement nor Binance's operating guide establishes that every PayPay location supports the new route, so the launch should be described as supported-merchant availability rather than universal acceptance.
Crypto-funded, not stablecoin-only
Binance describes the service as allowing eligible visitors to pay from their Binance account balance. PayPay's announcement does not publish an exact list of supported crypto assets, conversion rates or transaction limits. The payment route should therefore be described as Binance Pay-funded, not as a stablecoin-only service.
Binance says the payment does not require the user to pay a blockchain gas fee. That does not establish that all conversions or foreign-exchange steps are free, and the announcements do not provide a complete fee schedule.
For merchants, the useful change is operationally narrow: eligible overseas visitors gain another way to initiate a PayPay transaction, while the merchant remains on the familiar yen-receipt side of the flow. Adoption volumes, average transaction size and the share of PayPay locations supporting both payment modes remain undisclosed.
